so, IF YOU ARE MY "FRIEND", then you would have known that from june
12th throuh july 3rd, i was in asia. first time back in korea since 3rd
grade, and first time ever in my life in china. i tried selectively
choosing pictures and what not, so this entry may be kind of long.
anyways, here goes my log on my unforgettable summer 2005 trip to
asia...

right as we get into korea, at the airport, all of a sudden all this
new media appeared. commotion started, and then a group of people, with
soldiers covering and protecting this old korean man, stormed right
past us. seriously 1 foot away. here's the article.
turns out the old president who brought daewoo to bankruptcy, fled the
country, and was a fugitive for 5 years decided to return on the exact
same date we arrived. haha what a start to the trip.

jinfugong (translated in chinese), the main south korean palace surrounded by the city of seoul

lisa and keyoung (sb aacf) took me around to see so many shopping
sites. thank you ladies SO much! man we seriously went all over seoul
in the minimal amount of time given to us.

i seriously ate like a damn king in korea. you guys all know how much i
love korean food, so being "forced" to eat it every day was just simply
phenomenal. me and art alone finish a 1 1/2 foot tall jar of kim chi in
two weeks. go korean food.

interesting food products. pocari sweat is actually a pretty popular
redbull-type drink. i tried it. wasn't bad. was about to try the kimchi
chocolate but was convinced to do otherwise by lisa and keyoung.

lisa got this painting drawn by an old man working in the subway.
basically, the painting says "Jesus is love" in korean. it was amazing
cuz when we came up to him no one was there. but as he wrote those
words and started drawing, around 12 people ended up watching him
finish the entire thing so intent and quiet.

visited my grandfather's grave in korea. the man that made it possible
for me to be where i am today. i'll get to my dad's side family history
in a moment when i get to china. by the way, on the bottom left of the
stone you see 7 names. those are his sons. on the back are his
daughters, 4 of them. he had 11 children. and you all know that china
only lets you have one child.

the sun family is enormous. the first one is of me and my 30 year old
cousin in korea. the sun family is split in korea, china, and america.
the larger picture is of the sun family that are still alive and living
in china. i've only met a couple of these relatives before this
occasion. these account for less than half of the remaining living
members of the sun family. [S.U.N.] pwns you.
MissyJoli: the Sun family may be huge but you're only Sun that catches my eye!

at the north korea, south korea border. the bridge behind us leads straight to north korea.

thank you janet for taking me around hongdae! haha i know it musta been
kinda random, but thanks anyways. i had a ton of fun. thanks ana for
also coming out. yeah, we went to a bar then to a club till 6 am. once
we were out, man so many "students" including many passed out lying on
the streets haha.

jessica alba sightings in korea! ;]

we have now arrived in qingdao, china. weather here is actually very
nice cuz it's right by the ocean. seriously sb-like weather, which i
knew to take advantage of since beijing and shanghai wouldn't be (and
man, was i right).

my hour-long Master's project presentation given at Teamsourcing, Inc. courtesy
of an unbelievable opportunity given to me by my uncle and CTO
(raymond) and my aunt and CEO (linda). thank you so much for seriously
an unforgettable experience.

yiheyuan (the palace made by the empress for the empress [using the
money given to her to improve china's army but instead making this]).
that's my mom in this amazing pond that you'd totally see in the
chinese movies. so peaceful there.

tianjitou is the place where a chinese emperor explored and declared
the eastern most port of china (and for the world). he really thought
beyond this point, past the ocean, was the farthest most point of the
end of the world.

alongside a beach, we saw a long humongous great wall of china sand
castle. on it was detailed imprints of characters, people, countries,
and more.

inside a temple in laoshan. if you can see closely, right below my
lambda is a coin floating on water that i placed. if you were to
successfully place a coin on top of this water have it float, your life
is to become perfect. haha you can see dollar bills cuz some people
cheated so that it would float no matter what.

the view from outside the temple in laoshan. amazing. definitely yosemite-esque.

those scorpions are for eating. you get to pick them out at this one
chinese restaurant, and they fry them for you. definitely did NOT eat
that. anyways, qingdao was actually a german colony. that is why beer
is extremely prevalent in this city. hence, the famed asian beer tsing
tao. what's crazy about qingdao is that a 22 oz bottle of beer is 10
cents. AND, they don't keep beer stocked that's over a week old. haha
first thing when people order beer do is to check the born on date. so
throughout china, for that matter, we drank probably twice a day. by
the way, water cost about 30 cents per 12 oz bottle.

linbei is the village that my grandfather and all dad's side ancestors
came from. so primitive with very little opportunities. my grandfather
escaped from this village because he wanted a much better life for him
and his future family. ended up in korea where a lot of other chinese
people went and made it possible for me to be where i am today. who
knows? i might be living in that village right now if it wasn't for his
vision. i was told not to say a word while walking through this
village, cuz if i said my chinese name, the entire village would gather
to rush to us, serve us food, make us tea. all that may sound great,
but then they'll also want and expect you to take them with you since
we're all family. so we were advised by other relatives that did say
their name to not say anything at all.

two small kittens inside the village and a final farewell. this place
was definitely the highlight of my trip. even took some rocks that were
by the linbei village stone back with me (my true foundations).

the forbidden city. most of it was all in construction. man, so many
attractions are under construction/renovation for the upcoming 2008
summer olympics in beijing. kinda sucked cuz there were some places we
couldn't even goto at all.

for those of you that know me, once again, you guys know how much i
love dumplings. i devour 32 dumplings every time i eat them (an entire
package). anyways, in the city near where the linbei village is near,
yantai, there was this restaurant that served all these different kinds
of dumplings. these 7 orders, 140 dumplings total, cost $6 TOTAL. oh
man was i in food heaven.

in this one restaurant located in the outskirts, i first walk by and
see this cage of all these dogs. as we walk in the restaurant, i see
one of the dishes. if you can't read it, there's a picture of meat with
the caption "DOG MEAT". i completely lost my appetite. one of the
saddest things ever.

hiking up and finally getting to the great wall of china. one of the
wonders of the world. also ran up these 1000-step stairs (harder-style)
to get to the top of the wall located behind me. man, so tiring.

if you notice closely, instead of pick up basketball games in china,
they had pick up ping pong games haha. i may not look so happy in this
picture in tiananmen square, only cuz i had lost my wallet (with
driver's license and $100) in the taxi that brought us there.

met up with ben in shanghai. he took me around clubbing (where i saw
peter wang [sc lambda] and current sd lambda president eric lee), and
helped me get my nice "authentic" jordan xi's and jordan xx's. haha
thanks ben. it was an incredibly tiring but fun time in shanghai, which
was hot as hell. my mom bought a $150,000 place in shanghai at the
terrace (shown in the picture). so if any of you want to ever come back
with me to shanghai, we've got a place to stay.

the countdown to the next time i'm coming back to china: for the 2008 summer olympics in beijing.
anyways, i had an amazing but very tiring and unrelaxing trip to asia.
now ahead of me i've got two full weeks of full/over-time Master's
project programming before i had off to europe for another three weeks (scheduled 7/18-8/10) with nelly and tony. in case
you guys don't know our given agenda for europe, here it is (http://www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~msun51/files/EuroTripCPT.pdf). i hope i
was able to bring a bit of asia back to you and what i've experienced
these past 3 weeks.
ps. i got a 4.0 last quarter here in UCSB - my 2nd to last quarter left
to go to get my master's degree in computer science and to finally
start my life in the real world.

| - - so installs were held this past friday. my last Lambda Phi Epsilon installs ever.
man, the memories..
for those that do not know yet, my son, Victor Seto got elected to
presidency this upcoming year. kinda funny how he "followed" in
my footsteps, since he was academic chair, then immediately president
the following year just like me. anyways, he's going to be in hong kong
this fall for educational abroad, so guess who stepped up to fill in his
position in the fall? yup, you guessed it.
I will be President of Gamma chapter, UC Santa Barbara,
Lambda Phi Epsilon, once again, this upcoming Fall, 2005.
... All while finishing up my last quarter here in UCSB in getting
my Master's degree in Computer Science.

me and my date vicki wang, who i've known for since preschool!

me and my sons, Alpha Gamma class.
